Gutter Guards Require Annual Maintenance

The first rains have come for the season and your gutters are overflowing. You need gutter cleaning . Some promote Gutter Guards to keep your gutters clean. Gutter guards are heavily promoted at home shows with fancy demos of pure water flowing into the gutter guard while the leaves magically float over and to the ground. The debate of adding gutter guards or leaving the gutters open has valid points on both sides. In this article, I will discuss the pros and cons of gutter guards. I will also discuss the dangers of clogged gutters and the importance of ensuring that your gutters are clean and flowing freely when the rains hit. I went to a house to clean the gutters. It looked like a simple job at first glance. The owner had installed gutter guards. There were visible leaves resting in the roof valleys and on the gutters. When I took a closer look from the top I could see that the gutters were full of debris. In this case, the leaves were not getting in but all of the small sticks...

Clogged Gutters Cost You More Than Regularly Cleaning Gutters

Every house has them. They keep the rainwater from sliding off your roof (and landing onto your head) by catching it and diverting it into downspouts so the water can drain away from your home. But besides water...gutters catch everything else. Leaves, pine needles, acorns, dirt - anything that falls on your roof and is affected by gravity. Most people wait until they can see the clogged debris to worry about cleaning their gutters but this could actually be causing your home more damage! Clogged Gutters can cause water overflow This can lead to leaky basements and can damage foundations because the water puddles in un-intended areas.Gutters and downspouts are installed to guide rainwater and melting snow away from your home’s foundation walls. How to Safely use an Extension Ladder

Image
Follow these three steps for a safe trip up (and down) an extension ladder . 1. Establish a solid footing- Feet should be on a firm level surface. Placing a ladder on a slanted surface can result in the ladder sliding out as you ascend.  Look for a flat area such as a patio or driveway. Sweep away gravel or loose dirt. If you are setting up your ladder in dirt, be sure that the soil is packed and there are no hollow areas beneath. Never place a ladder on a rug. The rug will begin to slide as you move up the ladder. 2. Establish a safe angle-A good rule to establish a safe angle is to stand with your toes touching the feet of the ladder. Stand tall and reach out your arms. At shoulder height you should be able to grasp a rung at arms length. A ladder that is set too close to the wall is in danger of falling backward as you ascend. A ladder that is set at too much angle is at risk of slipping out at the feet as you ascend.
